An identity card is a compulsory personal document that Serbian citizens over 16 years of age use to prove their identity.
An Applicaton for the issuance of an identity card shall be submitted in person to the police department or station, according to the place of registered permanent or temporary residence.
The following documents shall be submitted:
– previously issued identity card (passport or driving license),
– original birth certificate, of the type with an unlimited validity period,
– original certificate of citizenship of the Republic of Serbia (not older than six months),
– original marriage certificate (if the surname was changed upon marriage) of the type with an unlimited period of validity, evidence that the charge for the identity card form and making the new identity card has been paid, optional 5×5 photograph, not older than six months, in the event that a person is being issued with a biometric identity card for the first time.
It is the duty of the competent authority to issue an identification card to the applicant within 15 days of receiving the request, at the latest (except in emergencies).
